It has some sort of motion sensor. The "low oil" alarm is for when the oil resevoir is low. In '96, OMC came out with the System Check warning that used the 4 lites on a 2" gauge or on the SystemCheck tachometer.This is most likely a shift cable adjustment. Disconnect the shift cable from the engine. Now shift the engine manually checking the shift operation. If the engine shifts fine with no issues then you need to check the shift cable adjustment and control.
